NMC Annual Professional Appraisal & Portfolio Review

Your year in review, with a clear plan for the next 12 months

An independent, appraisal-style session for nurses, midwives and nursing associates who want a structured review of their year and practical next steps for their NMC revalidation portfolio. It is especially useful if you do not receive an employer appraisal, for example if you work through an agency or staff bank, as a locum, or independently.

What is included

• A 45-minute one-to-one video session to review your year: your practice, your CPD, the feedback you have received and what you want to achieve next
• A review of the anonymised summary of your records that you send before the session
• A written summary of our discussion within 3 working days of your session, with your strengths, your goals for the next 12 months and a CPD plan

Why an appraisal matters

The NMC recommends that registrants use their annual appraisal where possible as part of revalidation. If you do not have an employer appraisal, this session gives you a structured conversation and a written record to reflect on and keep with your portfolio. It does not replace an employer appraisal if you have one, and we cannot say how the NMC will treat it. The NMC's guidance on practice-related feedback explains what counts.

Before your session

After purchase you will receive instructions to book your session. Please send an anonymised summary of your hours, CPD, feedback and any reflections, together with your main questions. Do not send patient-identifiable information.

What is not included

This is not an employer appraisal or HR performance process. It is not a reflective discussion, revalidation confirmation, clinical assessment or detailed review of every document, and it does not include completing official NMC forms or a guarantee of NMC approval.
