Free NMC Revalidation Tracker and Portfolio Builder
Revalidating with the NMC? This free tracker helps UK nurses, midwives and nursing associates keep every requirement in one place: practice hours, CPD, practice-related feedback, reflective accounts and more. It works on your phone and nothing is uploaded.
What is the NMC revalidation tracker?
Every nurse, midwife and nursing associate on the NMC register revalidates every three years. This free online tracker and portfolio builder gives you one place to record your evidence as you go, so revalidation is not a last-minute scramble. It follows the NMC’s eight requirements and the four parts of the Code.
The eight NMC revalidation requirements
- Practice hours: 450 hours (900 if you renew two registrations, 1,350 for three).
- CPD: 35 hours, including at least 20 hours of participatory learning.
- Practice-related feedback: five pieces, with no one identifiable.
- Written reflective accounts: five, each linked to the Code.
- Reflective discussion: with another NMC registrant, with the form signed by both of you.
- Health and character declaration.
- Professional indemnity arrangement.
- Confirmation: a completed confirmation form from your confirmer.
What you can do with the free tool
- Track all eight requirements with a progress bar and a countdown to your revalidation date.
- Keep a CPD log with hours, participatory hours, the Code theme, how each activity relates to your practice, and the evidence you hold.
- Write reflective accounts using the four NMC prompts, by typing or by dictating.
- Check a document for names, NHS numbers, dates, wards and other details that could identify someone, before you share it.
- Download your full portfolio as a page you can save as a PDF for your confirmer, and back up your data.
How to use the revalidation tracker
- Set your revalidation date and enter your practice hours.
- Log each CPD activity as you complete it.
- Write a reflective account after each piece of CPD, feedback or event, and save it.
- Run the privacy check on anything you plan to share.
- Download your portfolio and copy your answers onto the NMC’s official forms.
Frequently asked questions
Is this NMC revalidation tracker free?
Yes. It is free to use, with no account to create and nothing to download.
Is it approved by the NMC?
No. Reflect & Revalidate is an independent service and this tool is not approved or endorsed by the NMC. Always check the current requirements on the NMC website and in your MyNMC account.
Where is my information stored?
Only in your own browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to us or to the NMC. Use the Save my data button to keep a backup file, because clearing your browser data will delete your entries.
Can I use it instead of the NMC forms?
No. The NMC’s reflective accounts, reflective discussion and confirmation forms are mandatory. Use this tool to prepare your CPD log and reflective accounts, then copy your answers onto the official NMC forms.
How many CPD hours do I need for NMC revalidation?
You need 35 hours of CPD in your three-year revalidation period, including at least 20 hours of participatory learning. The 20 participatory hours are part of the 35, not extra.
Does it work for midwives and nursing associates?
Yes. The same revalidation requirements apply to nurses, midwives and nursing associates. If you renew two registrations, such as nurse and midwife, you need 900 practice hours.
Who can be my confirmer?
Where possible, your confirmer should be your line manager, who does not need to be an NMC registrant. If you do not have a line manager, the NMC recommends another NMC-registered nurse, midwife or nursing associate. If you do not have access to either, you can seek confirmation from another UK-regulated healthcare professional. Family and close friends cannot act as your confirmer. Reflect & Revalidate also offers a confirmer service.
Will the tool change when the NMC changes the rules?
The NMC is consulting on changes to the Code and to revalidation, with updated requirements expected from October 2027. We will update this page and the tool when that happens. It was last checked against NMC guidance in October 2026.
Need help from an NMC-registered practitioner?
Reflect & Revalidate can help if you would like support from an NMC-registered practitioner. Our NMC revalidation confirmer service is for registrants whose portfolio and reflective discussion are complete and who need the Confirmer Statement. The full support package includes a detailed portfolio review, a reflective discussion and both required NMC signatures. You can also book a portfolio pre-check call or a reflective discussion on its own.
